Making a homemade pinwheel

Making a homemade pinwheel is a fun and easy project that kids can enjoy. Here are the steps to make a simple pinwheel:

Materials:

  • Square piece of paper (preferably colored or patterned)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Pushpin
  • Straw
  • Glue (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Start with a square piece of paper. If the paper is not square, cut it to make a square.
  2. Fold the paper diagonally from corner to corner to make a triangle. Unfold.
  3. Fold the paper diagonally again, but in the opposite direction, to make another triangle. Unfold.
  4. Cut along the fold lines from each corner towards the center of the paper, but stop about 1 inch before reaching the center point.
  5. Fold every other corner towards the center of the paper and secure with a pushpin.
  6. Carefully push the pushpin through the center point of the paper and into the top of a straw.
  7. Optional: If the paper is not secure on the straw, you can put a small amount of glue on the back of the paper to keep it in place.

Your homemade pinwheel is now ready to spin! You can hold it in front of a fan, blow on it, or run around with it to make it spin.
