Making a homemade pinwheel is a fun and easy project that kids can enjoy. Here are the steps to make a simple pinwheel:
Materials:
- Square piece of paper (preferably colored or patterned)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Pushpin
- Straw
- Glue (optional)
Instructions:
- Start with a square piece of paper. If the paper is not square, cut it to make a square.
- Fold the paper diagonally from corner to corner to make a triangle. Unfold.
- Fold the paper diagonally again, but in the opposite direction, to make another triangle. Unfold.
- Cut along the fold lines from each corner towards the center of the paper, but stop about 1 inch before reaching the center point.
- Fold every other corner towards the center of the paper and secure with a pushpin.
- Carefully push the pushpin through the center point of the paper and into the top of a straw.
- Optional: If the paper is not secure on the straw, you can put a small amount of glue on the back of the paper to keep it in place.
Your homemade pinwheel is now ready to spin! You can hold it in front of a fan, blow on it, or run around with it to make it spin.
