Creating a small DIY bookshelf with your child – for your child’s books

Great idea! Here are some steps to create a small DIY bookshelf for your child’s books:

Materials:

  • 1 sheet of plywood (1/2 inch thick)
  • 2 wooden corbels
  • Wood glue
  • Screws
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or wood stain
  • Paintbrush

Tools:

  • Circular saw or handsaw
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Sanding block or electric sander
  • Tape measure

Instructions:

  1. Measure the space where you want to put the bookshelf, and mark the dimensions on the plywood sheet.
  2. Use the circular saw or handsaw to cut the plywood into the desired size.
  3. Sand the edges and surfaces of the plywood until they are smooth.
  4. Apply wood glue to the top of each corbel, and then attach them to the bottom of the plywood, one at each end. Use screws to secure them in place.
  5. Sand the corbels and the bottom of the plywood until they are smooth.
  6. Paint or stain the bookshelf as desired. You can paint it in a bright color or add some fun details that match your child’s room decor.
  7. Once the paint or stain is dry, you can add books to the shelf and place it in your child’s room.

Your child now has a small DIY bookshelf to store and display their favorite books.
