Using an orbital sander, sand all of the wood pieces until they are smooth and free of any rough spots or splinters.

Using a router, create a groove around the edge of the front piece where the circle was cut out. This will create a lip for the lid to rest on.

Using a jigsaw, cut the 1 x 4-inch poplar board into a handle shape. Sand the handle until it is smooth.

Attach the handle to the center of the lid using 1-inch wood screws.

Step 4: Assemble the box

Using wood glue and clamps, attach the front, back, and sides to the bottom piece. Use 1 ¼-inch wood screws to secure the pieces together.

Attach the top piece to the box using cabinet hinges.

Attach the top and bottom trim pieces to the box using wood glue and 1-inch wood screws.

Attach the front and back trim pieces to the box using wood glue and 1-inch wood screws.

Step 5: Finish the bread box

Using a wood stain or paint of your choice, apply a coat to the bread box and let it dry completely.

Once the stain or paint is dry, apply a coat of polyurethane finish to protect the wood and give it a glossy finish.
